Did you know that your brain functions solely to ensure that you continue to exist? Its purpose is to maintain your survival PERIOD. It is monitoring your environment ALL THE TIME to assess any level of threat to YOU…
When under threat, the brain cannot respond, it reacts to its environment only. Response comes from the cognitive function part of the brain (the Prefrontal Cortex) whereas, reaction comes from a totally different part of the brain (Brain stem AKA the Reptilian brain).
The cognitive portion of the brain allows you to thrive. The Reptilian brain reacts for your survival. Thrive cannot occur when threat is present. When we are under threat our bodies react, via Fight, Flight or Freeze – also know as the Sympathetic Nervous System.
THE BAD NEWS:
Nowadays there is constant perceived threat due to NUMEROUS factors:
- Too little time
- Too much pressure
- Unable to predict the future
- Media stories
- Finances
- TV
- Work environments
- GMO, pesticides, Additives
and almost EVERYBODY’S sympathetic nervous system is on overdrive, which causes a cascade of physiological events; wreaking hovoc on the entire system. Naturally there is supposed to be a balance between the Sympathetic and Parasympathetc Nervous Systems (the latter also know as Rest and Digest or PNS).
THE GOOD NEWS:
Perceived threat can be removed fairly easily and can DRAMATICALLY
- improve health and fitness results,
- assimilate food better,
- reduce and prevent pain,
- increase over all brain function,
- Improve digestion,
- Improve movement etc.
all by activating the Parasympathetc Nervous System. When the PNS is dominant it will allow for greater results in every aspect of your life, particularly in your health!
