- About 3 and a half years ago I moved down from New York City where I was running personal training departments for large corporate gyms and I wanted to open up my own training location so I moved to Beaufort South Carolina and moved in to a 700 sq. ft. studio.
- Today we have two locations (Habersham and Lady’s Island). One is 1400 sq.ft. and the other one is 3600 sq.ft.
- Right now I’m going to take you into our Lady’s Island location and explain a little bit more about what we do. Khadine is our Operations Manager and also a trainer as well.
- In our personal training facility, we have training rooms along with all the fitness equipment.
- What we do here at EarthFIT is if you are interested we would ask you few questions just to make sure the program is correct fit for you and for us and that we can get you to where you are looking to be, then from there we would take you through our assessment where we ask you medical questions to make sure you are cleared for training, then we take you through your goals a little bit more in detail and then we go to measurements wherein we use the most advance technological machine that would tell us Lean Body Mass, BMI, Body Fat Composition, Metabolic Rate and few other things, then we take you through a functional movement screen, the series of movements which make sure that you are moving properly so you are not promoting injury, then we do strength endurance test. From that assessment we would have a full picture of where you are currently at and where you are looking to go, then based on that we can tell you what program would be best for you.
Right now what I want you to do is go ahead enter your name and email address in this box right here (upper right) and I’m going to quickly send you a video of a training program you can use at home or wherever to get you started right away. Also, go ahead and read some information, we have more information about our programs below and that will help you make a good decision about whether you think this program is for you and if so, you can also call us at 1-(800) 718-7FIT (7348). And again, my name is Ian Hart and I’m looking forward to meeting you and getting you started on to your goals here at EarthFIT Personal Training.
BEAUFORT HEALTH AND FITNESS: HAIR-RAISING FACTS ABOUT LACK OF EXERCISE
If you are a woman and don’t exercise enough – or at all – you are literally making yourself sick.
A conclusion of a new study released by Oregon State University, indicates that inactive women are at a higher risk for developing metabolic syndrome – a group of medical conditions including high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and excessive belly fat. Even taken separately, each of these conditions can be dangerous to your health. Combine them, and your risk for Type II diabetes, heart disease, and stroke increases.
Should you be worried? It all depends on your level of Beaufort health and fitness. The study found that women average only about 18 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous daily exercise, far below the recommended minimum of 30 minutes a day.
The reasons for lack of physical activity like Beaufort health and fitness programs and exercises among women range from busy work schedules and family obligations to – incredibly enough – vanity. In an interview with the New York Times, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina M. Benjamin noted that because they don’t want to mess up their hair, some women avoid physical activity altogether. Sometime I hear women say they don’t want to sweat so they shy away from Beaufort health and fitness. For the most part, if you’re not sweating, you’re not doing it right.
According to Beaufort personal trainers and other Beaufort health and fitness experts, Anyone who doesn’t want to work out will always find a convenient excuse. But the bottom line is: hair – or any other reason – should not stand in the way of your Beaufort health and fitness. If you need even more compelling reasons to jump start your Beaufort Health and fitness – other than the ones cited above – how is this: numerous studies have shown that women who exercise at moderate to vigorous levels for three or more hours per week reduce their risk of developing breast cancer by 30 to 40 percent.
Now, that’s all well and good for the ladies, but if you are a man, don’t think you’re off the hook. Even though this particular study focused on women, many men also skimp on exercise. According to a 2011 report by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, fewer than two in 10 Americans get the recommended levels of physical activity, and more than a quarter of U.S. adults of both genders don’t exercise at all.
While this recent research mentions the risk of metabolic syndrome in women, let’s not forget that an inactive Beaufort health and fitness lifestyle can be dangerous for men and women alike. For both genders, it ups the risk of obesity, heart disease, several forms of cancers, diabetes, and stroke – all of which can lead to early death.
If a busy schedule – not hair – is the reason why you don’t exercise. At EarthFIT, we suggest the following time-saving tips:
- Plan your sessions early in the morning, before your schedule gets too busy. You’ll be energized for all your day’s activities and won’t have to worry about a Beaufort health and fitness workout later, when things get too hectic.
- Focus on time-saving but highly effective exercises like interval training, which typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes per session. Ask your Beaufort personal trainer to create intervals that are best suited to your needs.

BEAUFORT FITNESS: SWEAT A LITTLE AND NEVER ACT YOUR AGE!
Has anyone ever told you to “act your age?” I’ve talked about this before. Why? Because it’s awesome! That’s why. I have some good news: when it comes to fitness, age really doesn’t matter. It really is just a number.
Need proof? Look at actress Jane Fonda and fitness guru Richard Simmons (both well over 60) who have released exercise DVDs and teach workout classes. Need more evidence closer to home? Well, I can tell you about a number of my clients who started working out in the latter halves of their lives and are in better shape than they’ve ever been. This means that people in basically any age group can – and should – exercise. There is a lot of evidence pointing to numerous benefits of physical fitness for all Beaufort health and fitness seekers – kids, adolescents, young adults, midlifers, baby boomers, and seniors.
Whatever age-related ailment you can think of, chances are a well coached Beaufort fitness program and regular exercise can help prevent it, or at least reduce its severity. Arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, not to mention heart disease, certain types of cancer and diabetes, can all benefit from physical activity. Not only that, but being fit and active can also prevent disability and loss of function that many people undergo as they get older. Even many well-trained athletes see a decline in performance after the age of 30. But there’s hope.
In fact, a study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society reports that physically active older adults experience significantly fewer functional limitations than their more sedentary peers. It’s never too late (or too early) to start exercising. It’s just a matter of getting your physician’s okay, and then starting slowly and gently as you gradually build up your intensity. Exercising with an experienced Beaufort personal trainer or Beaufort fitness experts will ensure that your workout is safe and effective.
At EarthFIT, we recommend these workouts in your regular routine:
- Strength training: With age, our muscle mass declines and the body becomes weaker. However, resistance training will not only build up muscle mass and keep the body strong, but also help prevent bone density loss that occurs in osteoporosis.
- Balance and flexibility exercises will improve stability and coordination, keeping you from falling down and sustaining serious injuries – a big problem among older people. It will also increase your range of motion, decrease muscular tension, and strengthen your joints, tendons and ligaments – all of which will go a long way in preventing or relieving the pain and discomfort of arthritis.
- Cardio training will ensure not only a healthy heart, but also – of particular concern to older people – a healthy, alert brain. Numerous studies have shown that, while boosting our cognitive abilities, exercise also significantly reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer’s, dementia and other related conditions.
FOR BEAUFORT HEALTH AND FITNESS: SHOULD WOMEN PUSH THEIR MEN TO EXERCISE (AND VICE-VERSA)?
Did you know that behind many healthy and physically fit men there may be a nagging woman?
OK. Laugh all you want. But a new study from the University of Lincoln in England reports that inactive men are more likely to turn to exercise if nagged by their significant others to lead a healthier lifestyle. An earlier study from Surrey University also showed that both men and women are more likely to exercise regularly if urged by their partners. There are several conclusions that can be drawn from this research:
1. That many of us need encouragement to start exercising – whether it’s nagging or gentle persuasion, and
2. That support from people around us, be it our spouses, family, or friends, is very important in achieving our Beaufort health and fitness goals.
This is equally true for both genders. Of course, we need to remember that encouraging others to get fit and healthy – which encompasses physical activity and healthy diet – will probably backfire if you don’t follow your own advice.
To inspire people around you to exercise and eat well, you must set an example yourself, according to Beaufort personal trainers and experts. You can nag all you want, but if you sit on a couch all day and snack on junk food, nobody will take you seriously. You know the old saying about people who live in glass houses… If you lead a healthy lifestyle, then by all means – try to persuade your family and friends to do the same. At EarthFIT, we suggest points of view to motivate people around you to start an exercise program:
- Give a good reason: Let them know what specific benefits they can expect if they exercise. For example, if your partner or friend is overweight, tell them how physical activity will help him or her burn off calories and fat. Remember to give them reasons that are personal, not just general and generic arguments that are not relevant to their lives.
- Be a positive example: Talk about how exercise has improved your own life and health; be specific about the beneficial changes, be it Beaufort weight loss, strength, endurance, flexibility, or general conditioning.
- Share your enthusiasm: It is possible that inactive people don’t work out because they think exercise is boring and/or hard. Let them know that it certainly doesn’t have to be that way. An exercise or Beaufort fitness program can – and should – be enjoyable and adapted to each person’s level. This is where a Beaufort personal trainer at EarthFIT can be a big help.
- Be a workout buddy: Offer to exercise with your friend or significant other, so you can offer your support and encouragement. If you train at a different intensity than a novice, a Beaufort fitness coach can devise specific routines to match your individual levels.

ATHLETE’S FOOT: IT’S NOT WHAT YOU WEAR BUT WHAT YOU DO
To the consumers who purchased a pair of Skechers “toning” sneakers in the past, here’s some bad news and good news for you:
Bad news: this footwear – like similar shoes manufactured by other companies – does not live up to its dubious promise of firming up butts, legs, calves, and abs “without setting a foot in a gym.” The good news is that Skechers will now pay $40 million in partial refunds to duped customers. This is a relatively new development, but sports and Beaufort fitness experts have been warning consumers for a while that there is no credible evidence supporting manufacturers’ claims that this kind of overpriced footwear will help wearers exercise more intensely, burn more calories or improve muscle strength and tone.
In fact, Beaufort personal trainers and experts point out that because of some special design features on these sneakers, such as rounded soles, people with balance problems can be at risk of falling down while walking or running. Be suspicious of any advertisement that makes unrealistic claims about ‘miraculous’ properties of athletic shoes or any other piece of fitness equipment. And another thing – just because you have given “toning” sneakers the boot, doesn’t mean that you should give up on your dream of having a firm and toned body.
Realistically speaking, the only way of achieving those results are specific workouts combined with a calorie-restricted, whole foods diet. At EarthFIT, we suggest exercises that will improve your overall tone and firmness, regardless of what kind of shoes you are wearing. These include:
- Squats and Walking Lunges, performed correctly, will work your quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes and calves, whipping your entire lower body into shape.
- Push-ups and Rows will work on your chest and triceps, and they’ll even firm up flabby arms as well.
- Deadlifts: Great for the glutes and your back.
These are just a few examples of many different exercises that challenge all the major muscle groups, toning and firming them more effectively than any shoe – or any other gimmick, for that matter – ever could. As always, make sure that you warm up and use proper form. If you’re unsure of what that means, consult a Beaufort fitness expert.
