“Hey guys! Ben here, Precision Nutrition Coach. And, today again I’ll be talking about supplements. The supplement I’d like to speak about today is actually it’s a mineral. And it’s actually deemed to be “miracle mineral”, that is how beneficial it is for you. This mineral in particular is used for over 300 different cellular processes in the body; so that’s just how important it is. It is used for everything in the body. The problem however is almost everybody is deficient. You can go out and buy a magnesium supplement. However, the probability that it all gets absorbed in the body is very low because most magnesium supplements are the wrong and they also have a poor absorption rate. Go out and look at just a regular product like a multi-vitamin, multi-mineral. Look down the label the mineral, look at the magnesium. I am almost a hundred percent sure it’s going to say magnesium oxide and what magnesium oxide is go back to your days when you’re in high school or college. Remember when your professor gave you that strip of magnesium, the metal strip. They told you why they don’t fire, you lit it on fire because it’s very fun it burned up. What was left over? it was a bunch of cinders, little bits and pieces. That is magnesium oxide.It’s the waste product of a burned magnesium. So that’s actually what is in those mineral supplements and a lot of magnesium supplements.

So by taking a magnesium, you’re going to increase your protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is the building of muscles. So you’re coming in doing your EarthFIT workouts and your building muscles so you can burn more fat and get stronger. By taking a magnesium, you can increase your protein synthesis, it also increases the assimilation, digestion and absorption of your different nutrients so it breaks down fat in the body; so, it breaks down your carbs, fats and proteins. Your goal in here a lot of you is burn fat so it’s helping you burn more fat. It also helps detoxify the body as well so this will help cleanse everything out, give you regular bowel movements. A lot of people when they are not having magnesium they have irregular bowel movements, it is because everything is tensed up. A
magnesium is known as the calming herb. So by calming everything, it helps relax away things in the body so it helps the muscles relax and you can have a regular bowel movements. So that is one of the benefits as well.
Another benefit of it being the calming mineral is that being very calming it decreases the stress in the body, it is a natural relaxant so it can promote better sleep. And then also because you are coming and doing the hard training sessions here at EarthFIT, every time your muscle contracts it uses calcium but when it needs to relax it requires magnesium to relax so you might get cramps, this is an imbalance of the calcium and magnesium ratios. But also because during the workouts you are using calcium, magnesium, calcium, magnesium every time you contracts and relax the muscle it depletes the minerals in the body. So after a workout your minerals have been depleted along with your proteins and other nutrients in the body. This is why after your workout you need proteins and other things like that but because you depleted the minerals that stores you now depleted it, you need to replenish them after the workout. “Hey guys! Ben here, Precision Nutrition Coach. I’m going to be talking to you again about supplements today. The supplement I’d like to speak with you about today is going to be highly beneficial for you because what happens is a lot of people they have a lot of joint inflammation; their shoulder hurts; their back hurts; there are people walking around their knees hurt. Essentially, you can almost ask any different person they’re going to say this hurts and you ask them why they’re like it’s inflamed. So with this supplements going to help you do is decrease the amount of inflammation in your body while also helping you burn more fat.
The reason people aren’t getting enough of this is because we are eating too much of the wrong foods. The supplement I am specifically talking about is an Omega 3 which comes from fish oils – that’s the one we’re going to be talking about today. The reason people aren’t getting enough omega 3s is they’re eating too many omega 6, it skews with the balance of the omega 6 and omega 3 ratio. Way, way back in our ancestors past and everything, we used to eat a lot more fish and things that had omega 3s in it. Now we eat a lot of meat products and things like oils and all the processed foods so that pushes the omega 6 ratio. So the ratio you want to have is about 4:1. Right now most people are eating a 20:1 or 40:1. So, not getting nearly enough omega 3s and getting way to omega 6’s.
The reason this causes the problem is the omega 6 is causing the inflammation in the body, they cause restriction of the blood vessels, they cause coagulation in the blood, they cause restriction in the airways and they cause the pain in the joints where the omega 3s do the complete opposite. They are anti-inflammatory, they are anti coagulants, they increase the airway pathways in the body and they eliminate pain. So you want to get that ratio closer to the normal level and you may say to yourself “Hey, I eat fish you know I eat fish all the time.” Ask yourself this question:
- Have you eaten fish today?
- Did you eat fish yesterday, or last week, or anytime in this past month, and how much?
Because the amount of fish that you actually have to consume to get that proper amount of omega 3s is about 3lbs. Each serving of fish is about 250-500mg of omega 3s. You need several grams of omega 3s a day to get the benefits.
So the benefits of consuming omega 3 supplements are going to be like I spoke earlier:
- A decrease in joint pain and joint inflammation
- Increase in fat burning and your metabolism
How does it occurs is omega 3s cause a turn on a particular part in the body called peroxisomes within your cells. The peroxisomes, they digest the fat and they break down the fat differently from other different parts of the body, different cells in the body. So the omega 3s activate the peroxisomes. This increases the amount of heat that is release in the body by 30-40%. More heat being released means the metabolism is working even harder and also reduces the amount of energy that is actually produced by fat breakdown. This is actually beneficial for you because if less energy is being produced for each gram of fat that is being broken down. Your body has to actually break down more fat to get the required energy for the activity you’re trying to do so it actually burns more fat with the activation from the omega 3s.

Beaufort Fitness: 6 Best Exercises For Your Booty
“Here are the 6 Beaufort Fitness Best Exercises for Your Booty:
BEST Booty Exercise #1: LUNGE
An amazing exercise that targets the muscles of your butt, thighs, and hips is the lunge. Putting one foot out in front of the other, lower your body toward the ground, keeping your abdominals tight and your torso straight. Lower until the front knee is bent at 90 degrees and not extended past your toes. Stand back up and then extend the opposite leg and bend. Perform 10 repetitions. For an increased Beaufort fitness workout, hold dumbbells in each hand.
BEST Booty Exercise #2: HIP LIFT
A great exercise to work your glute muscles is the hip lift. To do this exercise, lie on the floor with your back flat, knees bent, and feet resting on the ground. While keeping your arms at your sides on the floor, lift your bottom and lower back off of the floor. Hold for a few seconds, and then slowly lower yourself. Repeat. To work your muscles even more, lift a leg in the air when you raise your bottom off the ground. Lower yourself and then repeat, lifting the other leg.
BEST Booty Exercise #3: BANDED SHUFFLE
This is a great exercise to get your heart pumping and work your buns. To do this exercise, you’ll need an elastic sports band. Stand up straight with your legs hip-width apart and tie the band around your lower legs. Squat down until your thighs are parallel to the floor, your back is straight, and your abdominals are tight. While in this squatting position, take several steps to the left, then several to the right. You may need to use your arms for balance, but your butt muscles should feel a workout.
BEST Booty Exercise #4: LEG LIFT
To do a leg lift, lie on your side and prop yourself up on your elbow. Raise your top leg slowly into the air, as high as you can, so your legs make a “V” shape. Hold for a few seconds, and then slowly lower your leg. Repeat 10 times, turn onto the other side, and lift the other leg.
BEST Booty Exercise #5: RUN OR WALK
Running or walking outside or on the treadmill are other great exercises that work your butt while giving you a cardio workout to burn fat at the same time. Make it your goal to exercise 30 to 45 minutes at least three times a week, including walking or running each time.
BEST Booty Exercise #6: PLIE SQUAT
Another form of squat is the plie squat. This is the exercise to add definition and shape to your butt. Start by standing with your legs slightly more than shoulder-width apart and your toes pointed out to the sides. This is what ballerinas call the plie position. For balance, hold your arms in front of you. While keeping your back straight, slowly squat to the ground until your thighs are parallel to the floor. Hold this for five seconds and stand back up. Repeat 10 times.
Burn, Baby, Burn! These 6 exercises are excellent ways to burn extra fat off your booty while adding the definition you desire. Not used to working your gluteal muscles? You’ll definitely feel the burn the first few days, but the end result will be worth the effort!

The truth is, we are all playing a game… the game of life. We are either winning (being happy and in control of our current situation) or we feel like we are losing (unhappy and not in control of our current situation).
Feeling like a loser sucks, believe me, I know. I have spent too many years feeling like a loser; but the truth is I wasn’t a loser.
It was my thinking that was backwards – and that made me feel like a loser. The reality was that I was a winner but I was living in “The Gap”.
It is like that famous qoute “When you change how you look at things, the things that you look at change.”
There is a simple formula that can make you feel like you are winning instantly!
But before I get in to that, let me explain what “The Gap” is. It’s something that I learned from world renowned coach, Dan Sullivan. OK… So, “The Gap”…
“The Gap” is the place between where you are currently and your ideal self. Your ideal self being an image that is held in your mind and is never obtainable becasue when a goal is reached, the ideal self shifts again to something different, therefore the “ideal” is never truly reached. You are always left with the feeling of losing which never helps self-esteem. Essentially you want to stay out of this place because happiness and fullfillment can never be achieved when you live in “The Gap”.
On the filp side, when you compare yourself: where you started vs. where you are today, you can ONLY see the success and the progress you have made. This always leads to happiness and fullfillment because there is a sense of accomplishment and forward progress. It is also focusing on the positive, creating postive feelings of success and accomplishment giving motivation of wanting to do more and more.
If you do even 1 thing a day that helps you towards your goal, you are successful.
Nobody is perfect so small success leads to major success over time. As coaches we know this as it relates directly to fitness.
Every workout translates to calories lost/strength gained/cardio increase or what ever your goal may be and every meal can be postives to your physiological function and goals, or destructive and sabatoging.
Every decision counts. Every decision you make is either taking you further from or closer to your goals. But we want to focus on the positive.
I will share pieces of how you can do that becasue my goal in 2014 is to help you win.
Winning is accomplishing the desired result. And it all begins with how you look at things.

Through all my research, there is one vital piece that I believe many people are missing these day.
In fact, more than 80% of Americans are deficient in this mineral.
The truth is, you are most likely deficient right now!

Many people tend to get the laxative effect of magnesium before they get the therapeutic affect because your body can only absorb a certain amount at one time depending on the type of magnesium supplement you might take. Many people think that they are getting enough magnesium in food but the truth is that many foods are devoid of the nutrients because the soil is as well these days. Suggestive early warning signs of magnesium insufficiency:
- Physical and mental fatigue

Also, one may experience chest tightness or a peculiar sensation that he can’t take a deep breath. Sometimes a person may sigh a lot.”
The highest amount of magnesium is in the heart and if your ratio of calcium to magnesium is off, this can cause major issue. Too much calcium build up causes the muscles to contract and can lead to intense muscles spasms and cramps. This can lead to a heart attack. People who die from a sudden heart attack after an athletic event could be magnesium deficient.
Anyway, I think you get the point on how important magnesium.
THE BIG ISSUE:
Since everyone is deficient and our food these days are devoid of this valuable mineral and supplements can’t always do the trick, then what do we do?
