NEW YEAR, NEW LEASE ON LIFE: IN 2013, RESOLVE TO FOCUS ON BEAUFORT HEALTH AND FITNESS
What is important to you in the New Year? If you are like most people, good health – both physical and emotional – is at the top of your priorities list.
In fact, according to the government’s official website, USA.gov, getting fit, eating healthy food, losing weight, managing stress, and quitting smoking, are among top resolutions Americans make each year.
Good health is the basis of our overall quality of life, which is why it is so important to put it first, says Beaufort personal trainers. Whether you want to prevent the most common diseases or manage the ones you may already have, you should start focusing on these goals right away.
Though this doesn’t come as news to anyone, it is worth repeating that the best way to ensure good health and longevity is through Beaufort health and fitness activity or regular exercise and sensible eating habits.
Here’s why:
Beaufort health and fitness activity and weight control prevent obesity – a true national epidemic – and, subsequently, a slew of illnesses: heart disease (the leading cause of death in the United States), diabetes, stroke, and several kinds of cancer.
By releasing endorphins and elevating the levels of serotonin, exercise improves our mood and reduces stress, anxiety and depression.
Because it increases oxygen-rich blood flow to the brain, encouraging the formation of new brain cells, exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s, as well as other mental conditions that impact our cognitive abilities, such as dementia.
Exercise increases lean muscle mass and strength – essential for optimum health.
Physical fitness strengthens the bones, improves mobility, relieves pains, aches and stiffness of arthritis, and keeps joints and tendons more flexible.
A Calorie-restricted diet based on fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy, lean protein and in some cases whole grain, will keep your weight under control and be beneficial to your Beaufort health and fitness in general.
Now that you know WHY exercise is essential for a healthy body and mind, At EarthFIT, we recommend including these Beaufort health and fitness routines into your exercise program (all of which we incorporate into our training programs):
• Strength training can include workouts with weights, or use your own body for resistance by doing squats, lunges, push-ups, and planks, among other exercises.
• Brisk, vigorous activity that raises your heart rate and breathing for an extended period of time – the actual heart rate depends on a number of factors, such as age, fitness level, etc. For example, interval training is the quickest way to get fit, burn lots of fat and calories, build cardiovascular endurance, and improve strength and agility. And since this form of exercise speeds up your metabolism and fat oxidation longer than traditional steady-state cardio, you will continue to burn calories and fat for hours after your workout’s done.
• Flexibility and balance exercises will keep joints supple, relieve stiffness, and help prevent potentially serious fractures due to falls.
Remember that the federal guidelines recommend at least 30 minutes of moderate Beaufort health and fitness activity.. So if you focus on achieving these goals, your New Year will be happy and HEALTHY!

Beaufort Personal Trainer Chosen As A Contestant For Next Best Fitness Star
As a Beaufort Personal Trainer, I am proud to announce that I have been chosen as a contestant on Fit Or Flop, to be considered the Next Best Fitness Star! The season premier is this Wednesday the 23rd of January. I am really excited to see how the taping turned out. I have a feeling that I looked pale and run down from jet lag and fighting off a cold, but it was totally worth the trip. Pretty soon you will see if I got a Fit or a Flop to advance towards America’s top personal trainer. I am happy to represent personal training Beaufort and if you have not heard about us, you can see what we are all about when go to our page that explains more about EarthFIT and Beaufort Personal Training.
Many people don’t know how EarthFIT came about and how and when I decided to become a personal trainer in Beaufort. It’s a long story but basically I had a friend who was a personal trainer in Beaufort SC and he knew that I was running personal training departments for large corporate gyms in NYC and was doing really well at building the departments which included hiring, training, leading educating personal trainers and many other things in between. He knew that I was thinking about starting my own business and begged me to come down to SC to help out his Beaufort personal training business but at the time I was loving my job and had been promoted 4 times in 2 years and was being prepped as a regional manager. So I had to decline his offer. I continued working in NYC as a personal training manager putting in about 13- 14 hour days and training for an intense race called the Men’s Health Urbanathalon.
Eventually I got run down and burned out. Long story short, my friend called me up again and said, there is a fitness facility in a beautiful location here and no one is running it. Why don’t you just come down for a weekend and check it out. You can start your own business at that location and if all goes well we will start building other Beaufort personal training locations together. I said to myself, “what do I have to lose, I am burnt out and run down, it won’t hurt to check it out.” It was one of the coldest winters we had in NYC in a long, long time, so I was happy to go south for a reprieve. I flew down to South Carolina for the weekend saw the Habersham location which was named Utterly Fit at the time and it had a big cow on the front, haha! I kept the sign somewhere, I wish I still had it.
But I digress. So it was also 80 degrees here in Beaufort, SC and 30 degrees in NYC so I decided right then and there that it was time to start my own personal training business in a beautiful town called Beaufort in an even more beautiful village called Habersham.

BEAUFORT HEALTH AND FITNESS: EXERCISE, EAT RIGHT TO BEAT CANCER RISK
As so many of us are trying to adapt a healthier lifestyle in the New Year, the American Cancer Society (ACS) is providing, with its newly updated set of recommendations, helpful tips on keeping cancer at bay.
The guidelines, released focus on the importance of regular physical activity like Beaufort health and fitness programs, nutrition, and tobacco-free life – the second leading cause of death in the United States – in preventing cancer,
While certain kinds of cancer have hereditary ties, often they are attributed to unhealthy lifestyle. According to ACS, each year one-third of all cancer deaths in this country are caused by poor diet and lack of exercise, and another third is linked to tobacco use – both smoking and chewing. It’s true that in some cases of cancer, genetics may play a role, but much too often, bad habits are to blame says Beaufort fitness experts. It is well known that inactivity, sedentary lifestyle, and unhealthy diet can contribute not only to many forms of cancer, but also to other preventable illnesses like heart disease, obesity, and Type II diabetes.
To lower cancer risk, the ACS recommends not smoking, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating a low-fat, high-fiber diet that includes at least 2½ cups of fruits and vegetables every day, as well as whole grains instead of refined grain products. Consumption of red and processed meat, as well as alcohol, should be limited, the ACS says.
How can a Beaufort health and fitness program help keep cancer at bay?
- Exercise boosts the immune system so it is more resistant to various diseases. It may also alter levels of certain hormones that feed the growth and spread of tumors.
- Beaufort health and fitness activity along with a calorie-restricted diet prevents obesity, a major risk factor for many types of cancer. ACS reports that doctors are seeing more patients with cancers linked to obesity, including pancreatic, esophageal, stomach, liver and kidney cancers.
In fact, the American Institute for Cancer Research estimated in 2009 that over 100,000 cases of cancer cases diagnosed in this country each year are caused by excess body fat. And the figures have not improved since then – according to a recent article by USA Today. These are other examples of a huge impact our lifestyle choices can have on our health and longevity.
To maximize and maintain Beaufort weight loss, Beaufort personal trainers and Beaufort fitness experts recommend fat reducing workouts like interval training in combination with fat burning, strength-boosting exercises.
Interval training is very effective, with the added bonus that it continues to burn fat and calories for up to 24 to 36 hours after the workout is finished. As for strength training, while it may not burn as many calories that you can use calorie counters to monitor during the session, it does boost the overall calorie expenditure and builds lean muscle which is a huge metabolism booster, not to mention all the other health benefits, such a stronger body, joints and bones.
What it all comes down to is that combining Beaufort health and fitness activity may very well reduce our lifetime risk of developing or dying from cancer.
