Hey EF Fam,
Part of our profession as coaches and health professionals consists of constant research and study, searching for any advantage, any method that will increase results safely, effectively and efficiently to help you maximize health and performance. It is a never ending process and evolution, which is why we are constantly tweaking and testing methods at EarthFIT.
Through all my research, there is one vital piece that I believe many people are missing these day.
In fact, more than 80% of Americans are deficient in this mineral.
The truth is, you are most likely deficient right now!
This mineral is responsible for over 300 biochemical reactions in the body and if you don’t have enough, it could be slowly wreaking havoc on your entire system and drastically restricting your results inside and outside the gym.
So my goal in this article is to convey the importance of this mineral.
It could be argued that is the most important mineral in the entire body.
That mineral being MAGNESIUM!
- It activates the muscles and the nerves
- It attaches to ATP to create energy in the body (with out magnesium you don’t have energy in the body)
- It helps to digest proteins, carbs and fats
- It is a building block for DNA
- It is a precursor for neurotransmitters (The chemicals like seratonin which make us feel good 🙂
And you are not getting enough of it. Many people tend to get the laxative effect of magnesium before they get the therapeutic affect because your body can only absorb a certain amount at one time depending on the type of magnesium supplement you might take. Many people think that they are getting enough magnesium in food but the truth is that many foods are devoid of the nutrients because the soil is as well these days. With that being said, the foods with the highest concentration of magnesium that can assist in more absorption are.

Signs and Symptoms of magnesium deficiency as list by http://drsircus.com.
Suggestive early warning signs of magnesium insufficiency:
- Physical and mental fatigue
- Persistent under-eye twitch
- Tension in the upper back, shoulders and neck
- Headaches
- Pre-menstrual fluid retention and/or breast tenderness
Possible manifestations of magnesium deficiency include:
- Low energy
- Fatigue
- Weakness
- Confusion
- Nervousness
- Anxiousness
- Irritability
- Seizures (and tantrums)
- Poor digestion
- PMS and hormonal imbalances
- Inability to sleep
- Muscle tension, spasm and cramps
- Calcification of organs
- Weakening of the bones
- Abnormal heart rhythm
In a recent article by Dr. Sidney Baker. “Magnesium deficiency can affect virtually every organ system of the body. With regard to skeletal muscle, one may experience twitches, cramps, muscle tension, muscle soreness, including back aches, neck pain, tension headaches and jaw joint (or TMJ) dysfunction. Also, one may experience chest tightness or a peculiar sensation that he can’t take a deep breath. Sometimes a person may sigh a lot.”
The highest amount of magnesium is in the heart and if your ratio of calcium to magnesium is off, this can cause major issue. Too much calcium build up causes the muscles to contract and can lead to intense muscles spasms and cramps. This can lead to a heart attack. People who die from a sudden heart attack after an athletic event could be magnesium deficient.
Anyway, I think you get the point on how important magnesium.
THE BIG ISSUE:
Since everyone is deficient and our food these days are devoid of this valuable mineral and supplements can’t always do the trick, then what do we do?
In another upcoming email I will provide you with ways you can combat losing more of the miracle mineral and point you in the right direction as to the fastest and easiest way to absorb the mineral. I don’t want to overwhelm you with too much info all at one time and when it comes to magnesium, the research is astounding.
Committed to your success,
Ian
